Dealing with Menstrual Disorders

We expect you to be referred by your general practitioner, whenever possible. This step provides a link for continuation of care for your problems. We rely on information you and your doctor provide to plan our investigations.

In assessing menstrual disorders, an ultrasound scan of the pelvis including the uterus (womb), and the ovaries may be necessary. The scan allows the gynaecologist to exclude unusual swellings on the womb and ovaries.

In women above 40 years of age, a camera (hysteroscopy) inserted into the womb may be necessary. This step is usually followed by taking a sample from the lining of the womb. This tissue sample is examined in the laboratory, mainly to exclude cancer.

The above investigations may be backed by a blood test to assess hormones. The pattern of your menses is controlled by hormones produced in the ovaries, which in turn are influenced by hormones from the brain (pituitary), the thyroid and other parts of your body.

All this investigations form the basis of advice and treatment to follow when necessary.

Key Benefits

All investigations are performed in one place, saving you time and money. Saving time means you do not spend weeks worrying about your symptoms.

All investigation are performed while you are awake with  local anaesthesia only. This enables you to see what problems are found if any. You are also able to discuss these findings and plan care.

Local anaesthesia is safer than general anesthesia.

Following these investigations, you can go home, without the need to stay further in the hospital and without nausea and vomiting common following general anesthesia.
